Before replacing your battery, it's important you know about two essential components of your alarm system.
Transformer
-
-
A large plug located in an electrical outlet, often secured with a screw to keep it from falling out, is the main source of power for your alarm system.
-
As long as there is power in your home, your system should always have power.
-
If the transformer stops supplying power, then the system will keep running by the system’s backup battery.
-
Backup Battery
-
-
The backup battery will keep the system running for a period of time in the event of a power outage.
-
This period of time depends on the age of the battery and the number of devices it has to support during the outage.
-
The backup battery is located either inside the keypad (where the codes are typed in) or in a separate panel box often located in a closet. The location of the battery depends on the system type.
-
These backup batteries are rechargeable. Once power is restored, the battery will recharge on its own.
-
Before replacing your panel battery, we advise giving the backup battery 24 hours to fully recharge. If your system is still reporting a panel low battery after 24 hours, at that time we recommend a replacement. If you need to order a replacement battery, please text our Digital Support team at 469-513-8685.
