The Simon XTi has four icons on the home screen for your doors, windows, motions, and environmental sensors like smoke detectors. These icons let you see at a glance if anything is open, if your motions have picked up any movement recently, or if any of your environmental sensors have been activated. If any of these icons are red you can click on them to see what sensors are open or activated. The motions icon will stay red for about a half hour after your motions have picked up movement so it will probably be red most of the time. Also, the environmental icon will include any sensors that do not fit under any other icon, for example, if you have a window sensor that is not labeled as a window it will show up under the environmental icon if you open it.
To arm, the system press the lock icon on the home screen, the screen that comes up will let you pick if you want to arm your doors and windows only or if you want to arm all. The difference between the two is just whether your motion detectors are armed or not. Environmental sensors are always on even when the system is disarmed. Before you make a selection you can select from the options at the bottom of the screen if you want. You can turn the entry delay off and you can turn silent exit on if you want. When you arm the system the panel will beep for 45 seconds to give you time to walk out the door, the silent exit will stop the beeping during this delay and also extend the delay to 90 seconds. When you return home and open an entry door the system will again give you a 45-second delay to disarm the system before the alarm sounds, turning off the entry delay will get rid of this delay and the alarm will go off immediately if a door is opened.
If anything is open when you arm the panel, it will protest and give you a “Bypass” button on the screen. If you want to leave the open sensors off you can press bypass to just arm everything else. Otherwise just go close that sensor if you do not want to bypass it.
When the system is armed simply press the lock icon on the home screen and then type in your code to disarm it. Or if you just came through the door and the panel is counting down the entry delay the keypad will already be up on the screen and you can just type in your code. If the alarm has gone off, however, there will be a red box on the screen indicating an alarm, click anywhere on that red box to bring up the keypad so you can type in your code.
Press “Emergency” and then you can press “Panic”, “Police”, or “Fire”. Panic is for medical. You can use these buttons even if the panel is not armed. The central station will not call you first.
If the panel is beeping or there is a yellow triangle by the gear icon you should check the status. Press the gear icon at the bottom right then press “Listen” next to “Panel Status”. If you need to clear old alarm history, press “Clear” and then press “Listen” again.
If you want the panel to beep when a door or window is opened click on the gear icon and at the bottom of the first page you can turn Chime on.
