Zones can be described as equipment that is monitored by the control panel, alone or in a group. Zones are customizable with users having the ability to dictate zone behavior through programming. (Some systems use phrases like “sensor group” or “zone type”.)
Zones are used to identify which alarm device triggered the alarm event to occur so that the central station operators can provide location information to the responding authorities.
On hardwired security systems, you may have many similar devices on one zone. A zone might include windows, doors and motion detectors.
Each device on a wireless security system is its own zone.
