The keypad on my SmartCode 888 doesn’t light up/wake up when I push a button.

Check that the Status LED option is turned ON (it is ON by default). For detailed instructions on how to set the Status LED, please see (link to install guide). Also, check that the batteries have power and are inserted correctly into the battery pack, which should be inserted correctly as well. For detailed instructions on how to change the batteries, please reference the support links above.

Please note that on the SmartCode 888 keypad, pushing other buttons will not cause the 1-touch locking button to light up.

If the issue remains, check that the cable between the keypad and the interior is connected with the proper alignment and is completely inserted. For detailed instructions on how to connect the cable, please reference the support links above.

Can I turn off the beeping sounds?

Yes, for detailed instructions on how to set the Audio settings, please reference the last page of the installation guide.

What is Auto-Lock?

Can I set Auto-Lock to trigger at a specific time of day?

No, the Auto-Lock countdown is triggered when the deadbolt is unlocked.

Is SmartCode 888 waterproof?

SmartCode 888 is designed to operate under these weather conditions:

Humidity: Exterior, 100% condensing | Interior, 30-95% non-condensing

What happens if I forget my user code?

You can make guesses, but each three consecutive failed attempts will result in the keypad locking out for 60 seconds.

If you forgot your user code, there are two options:

1. Add new user codes. For detailed instructions on how to add new user codes, please reference page 3 of the installation guide.
2. Reset SmartCode 888 to factory settings to clear existing user codes and add new ones. Reference last page of installation guide.

When I try to lock my SmartCode 888, it makes noises but doesn’t lock.

One possibility is that your SmartCode 888 may not have been ‘handed’ properly. (The ‘handing’ process allows the lock to determine which direction to extend the deadbolt).  SmartCode 888 will automatically ‘hand’ the first time it powers up. If you need to re-hand the lock, please reference the support links above.

Another possibility is that your SmartCode 888 might be jamming. Check that the bolt hole is at least 1” deep so the deadbolt fully extends. Check that the door closes properly so that when the deadbolt is extended it is going into the bolt hole and not hitting the deadbolt strike or door frame.

Why isn’t my SmartCode 888 locking?

SmartCode 888 will not lock if your batteries are too low so as to prevent accidentally locking you out. For information on how to change your batteries, please reference the support links above.

Another possibility is that the bolt hole on the door frame might not be deep enough. Make sure the bolt hole on the door frame is at least 1” deep and clear of any debris. There may also be a misalignment with the door, door frame, and/or strike. For more information on how to address misalignment, please reference the support links above.

Is SmartCode 888 BHMA certified?
