Wired PIR motion detector sensor connection to a "Resolution" translator
Hello,
My account number is: SF01729259.
I have 13 wired sensors in my home and I connected them to the 2 "Resolution" translators that were sent to me. All the sensors are working properly, except sensors 4 and 5. These 2 sensors are related to the basement motion detector and glass break sensors.

I also read in the Resolution Translator brochure that PIR devices need a special Altronix power supply with lead acid battery. So it looks like this may be the reason why those 2 sensors have a problem. I also see that the led light on the motion detector is completely off.

I need to get these 2 sensors working ASAP because my system is up but I can't really use it yet. Please let me know what you advise me to do?

Thanks,
Bijan

  • Bijan,

Those zones will require 12V power to the detector for it to work. In addition to the two zone wires that you move over to the translator you should have two more wires in those cables back at the main box. You can get that Altronix power supply and power that sensor with that if you want, the easiest thing to do though would be to leave the power wires connected to the old system, and leave the old box powered up. Basically just using the old box as a 12V  power supply.

  • Chris,

Actually I already have those sensors powered. As you said, I have connected their power sires to the 12VDC power on the old box.

In the meantime, I found that the group number I had assigned to them was wrong. I changed their group number from 13 to 17.

Before the change, upon arming Simon XT system, it said that sensor # 4 and sensor # 5 are both open. After the change, I don't get that message any more. As far as Simon XT is concerned, everything is fine. However, when I physically checked those 2 sensors, I found that the glassbreak sensor works just fine (triggers the alarm upon being opened), but the motion detector doesn't work.

I also found that on the motion detector, the LED indicator light is always off. I wonder if there is a way to independently check the motion detector hardware.

  • Bijan,

If the LED on the motion is off all the time on a hardwired motion detector, power would be the main thing to check. If you have a way to confirm with a multimeter or something that it is getting 12V at the detector I would do that. Or maybe take it down and connect it just with a short wire to the 12V power and see if the LED comes on. Make sure you have two wires (+ and -) for power and not just one (+). If it is definitely getting power and still does not blink at all then that would mean it is just not picking up motion. At that point I would think about replacing the motion, if it is getting power but not working at all there is not much else you can do.

A motion will read open if it is not getting power, in the window group 13 it would tell you that all the time, however in motion group 17 it does not tell you that it is open the same way it does for windows. That reenforces that it is likely a power issue and not a hardware issue. If it was simply not picking up motion it should read closed all the time.

  • I have a wireless system but having problem to add the wireless devices to my 6160RF keypad, well this is my scenario:
1)control panel vista-20P(no wired zones is used)
2)two 6160RF keypad having 16 and 17 addresses and Receiver is enabled (ON),the Keypads are connected to the Control Panel by 4 Wires.
3)a new Motion sensor is ON and active
4)First of all i programmed the zone 09 for this motion sensor with zone type 04,and i have add the motion address manual with loop 1
    5) a armed the system "AWAY".
6)i walk in front of the motion sensor but no action on the keypad.
7)i even tried to add the device address automatically it doesn't work.i feel like the sensor and the keypad not connected to each others.
8)i checked that the receiver address is :00 ,and the receiver is ON ,i tried another motion sensor it's the same ,and i tried another keypad also the same problem.i can't get my wireless devices connected to my 6160RF keypad.any suggestion or support is highly appreciated.

    Thanks alot in advance

  • Thank you for your questions. There are a few things I would like to verify. Below is a link that walks through the process of adding a wireless sensor to the Vista panel. The steps you have detailed sound correct, but the main thing that needs to be double-checked would be the serial number. After selecting the zone number, Zone type, Partition, and Report code, it will ask for the serial number. Make sure the screen is saying Input S/N L. At this point, if you walk in front of it twice, it should beep. If it does not, then we it would be best to give us a call so we can determine if it may be a defective sensor or receiver. The number to call is (785)321-3103.
