What sensor group to use for the Garage Door Sensor TX-8010-01-1?

I was trying to figure out what the best sensor group is for this GE Garage Door sensor (TX-8010-01-1-a) and came across some information on another website that indicated group 40 is the one to use.

however, if I read the manual correctly group 40 will send an instant alarm so won't that cause an alarm to be triggered right away if I forget to disarm the system before opening the garage door?

  • If it's in group 40 and I either set up a new notification or add it to an exsisting notification group on the website won't I then get a push notification from the alarm.com app and/or a text message (depending on how I set it up)?

  • Hi Jami!

Group 40 is for chime-only notifications. If you open the garage door while the system is armed, it will cause a chime at the panel, but will not set off the alarm. This chime will only work if you have enabled the special chime option.

We normally recommend that door sensors, including garage door sensors, be set for either group 10 or 13. If it is in group 10, the alarm will begin it's entry delay countdown when the garage door is opened. If it is in group 13, the alarm will go off instantly.

  • Okay, that makes sense.  I had initially thought I should set it to the same as my motion sensors (17 or 20) since it seems to be motion activated, but the door group of 10 is a better option in my situation.  thank you!

  • Gary Prola, 40 was PERFECT, I dont want it tied to setting off my alarm and I dont want just a local chime, I wanted to set up so I can send myself an alert after 30 minutes if I leave my garage door open.
40 works the exact way I wanted, funny I tried almost every other code and this is the one I wanted, I almost gave up until I read this.  Too bad I did not read this first ;)

Thanks again for this post, Ed,
