Just set up 1st window contact; how do i tell if it's signal is being received by the Simon XT?

I have 20 or so window contacts, and before I place all 20 I want to be sure the window configuration of contacts I am using work such that the Simon XT receives the signal.  Then I can place the remaining ones....

  • Jim,

A quick easy solution would be to open the window (leave it open) and then press status, the panel will announce that the sensor is open. Another option would be to turn chime on and it will beep each time you open a sensor.

Once you have all of your sensor up we would recommend running a sensor test to make sure all of the sensors have a strong enough connection with the main control panel.

  • Thanks Kelly.  So you mean I should make sure the simon xt is turned on (battery connected), plugged in, then set up the first window contact.   Then do as you say above, press 'status' on the simon xt ...and it will announce a sensor is open?  Thanks again. Jim

  • Jim,

Yes that is correct, you must have the Alarm system plugged in in order to test a sensor. Connect the battery first (that way once the battery is fully charged the low battery signal will go away, typically within 3-4hrs but may take up to 12). Once the battery is connected plug in the AC power.

Once that is done set up the sensor, open the door/window it is on and press status, it will tell you it is open. Keep in mind that the rest of your sensors are not properly set up so it may give you a whole list of open sensors and maybe some ''trouble conditions as well.

To clear trouble conditions and event history in the panel memory press ''status'' and then immediately ''disarm'' , then press status again and it will give you an accurate ready of your system.
